Too, if you're going for Pet or Ally, I'd use a longer focal length than if you're going for adversarial relations. In Adversarial relations, use a 45mm focal length or less and fill the image with the figures. It'll make them "larger than life" especially if you had a more action oriented pose. Action can also influence your choice of focal lenth for the camera as well as its position. Action is often shot from below the chest to give the subject that bigness.
